If you are looking for the Process for Funds released to Regulated Entities, click here
Please email [email protected] notifying us that the account holder has passed away and provide a scan or good quality picture of:
• the Death Certificate/Coroner’s Certificate of the Fact of Death,
• the Will, listing all personal representative(s), and
• Proof of Identification and Proof of Address documents for all personal representative(s); documents we can accept are listed here.
We can also accept a Solicitor’s Death Certificate Verification Form if it prepared by one of the three regulated solicitor entities below:
• Firm regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority,
• Firm regulated by the Law Society of Scotland, or
• Firm regulated by the Law Society of Northern Ireland.
After we receive your email with all suitable documentation, we will email you a Confirmation of Account Balance(s) Letter and a Bereavement Account Closure Form.
Please apply for a Grant of Probate or a Certificate of Confirmation (issued by a Scottish Court), if required.
When a Grant of Probate or Certificate of Confirmation is not required:
• If funds will be released to the same bank account that the late customer has linked to their OakNorth account(s), which we will specify in the Confirmation of Account Balance(s) Letter, and there is only a sole executor listed in the Will, and this sole executor is a joint account holder of this linked bank account, we will not require a Grant of Probate to be applied for.
If a Grant of Probate has previously been applied for and has an issue date of 3 March 2019 or earlier, please email [email protected] as there may be additional steps in the process.
Please email [email protected] and provide a scan or good-quality picture of:
• Grant of Probate or Certificate of Confirmation (if required), and
• completed Bereavement Account Closure Form, signed by all personal representative(s).
The bank account nominated in the Bereavement Account Closure Form must either be:
• a personal UK mainland bank account of which the executor is an account holder, or
• a UK mainland executor bank account of which the executor is an account holder.
If an executor bank account is nominated in the Bereavement Account Closure Form, please send a £0.01 verification payment to:
• account number: 10000100
• sort code: 04-13-23
• reference: the late customer’s OakNorth account number (stated in the Confirmation of Account Balance(s) Letter)
We will attempt to electronically verify the bank account nominated in the Bereavement Account Closure Form. Where not possible or not successful, you will need to complete a transaction(s) and/or provide documentation.
We will release funds via bank transfer to the verified nominated bank account and email a Confirmation of Release of Funds Letter.
For late customers who held an ISA with us, a specific Confirmation of Release of Funds Letter for ISAs will be sent, which may allow the surviving spouse or civil partner of the late customer to apply for Additional Permitted Subscriptions (APS) in an ISA with another eligible ISA provider.
OakNorth will be unable to accept Additional Permitted Subscriptions (APS) in a new ISA from a surviving spouse or civil partner.
