OakNorth, the leading digital bank for entrepreneurs, by entrepreneurs, has provided a £5.7m loan to leading civil engineering and infrastructure provider, J Hopkins Contractors.
Founded in 1973 by John and Maureen Hopkins, the Manchester-based firm has grown from a small family business into a leading name in civil engineering and highway maintenance . With a commitment to ethical practices and sustainability at the heart of everything it does, the company specialises in a wide range of civil engineering and surfacing projects, including highways, airfields, recycled aggregates and asphalt, and drainage services. With a rich heritage of over 50 years, its team of skilled professionals embrace a proactive approach to problem-solving, leveraging the latest technologies and sustainable practices to create infrastructures that are not only functional, but also harmonise with the communities they serve.
The £5.7m loan from OakNorth will be used by J Hopkins Contractors to acquire its new company HQ, situated in Irlam, City of Salford. Located just 10 miles outside of Manchester city centre, the new 6.4-acre site is considerably larger than the firm’s previous main office, enabling the leading infrastructure provider to accelerate its future revenue growth. The additional space will also help facilitate the expansion of the company’s plant and equipment, enhancing operational efficiency and service delivery.
Noel Hopkins, Managing Director of J Hopkins Contractors, commented: “Ever since we were founded in 1973, our mission is to lead the civil engineering and construction industry by example. The acquisition of the new site is a significant milestone for our company, providing the space and resources needed to support our long-term growth strategy. OakNorth’s understanding of our business, Greater Manchester’s contractor and infrastructure market and flexible approach to financing have been instrumental in making this possible.”
Stewart Haworth, Director of Debt Finance at OakNorth, added: “J Hopkins Contractors exemplifies the type of resilient, growth-oriented business that OakNorth is committed to supporting. With contractor revenue set for growth over the next five years, driven by major infrastructure programs, the firm’s strategic acquisition of the Irlam site positions them perfectly to capitalise on this tailwind and drive continued success in the infrastructure sector. We are delighted to provide Noel and his team with a tailored financing solution that meets their current needs and supports their future ambitions.”
